What is assisted living?
An assisted living lifestyle offers seniors an independent environment while providing basic assistance with their activities of daily living. Services may include daily meals, 24-hour staffing, housekeeping and laundry services, apartment maintenance, scheduled transportation, social and recreational activities, medication assistance, bathing assistance, and other personal assistance, as needed. A common lounge, TV room, library, exercise room, and dining room are included in most assisted living communities.
How Does Assisted Living Differ from Other Levels of Care?
Assisted living communities offer a unique combination of independent living and care. Unlike nursing homes and other medical facilities, assisted living facilities allow elders to maintain a sense of independence and involvement in a social community, while at the same time provide the assistance with daily life and peace of mind that comes with a trained team of caregivers.
Do all assisted living facilities offer the same services?
No. Assisted living communities differ in services, lifestyles, amenities, levels of care, apartment features, apartment layouts, recreational programs, and food programs.
Prepare yourself prior to touring a facility by writing a list of questions that pertain to services offered and services needed.
What accommodations are available?
Proverbial Care offers residents an affordable choice of either private or semi-private rooms.
What are Proverbial Care’s visiting hours?
When you live at Proverbial Care, it is just like home. You are free to welcome and entertain guests as you please. Just as you would at your home, you would be considerate of the usual awake and sleep hours of others.
Is there a doctor or nurse on duty?
Assisted living providers are not required to employ a full-time nurse. Proverbial Care has 24 hour care givers trained on the rendering of elder care.
Do you have a house physician?
Residents continue to see their own physicians. Proverbial Care provides scheduled assistance of residents with transportation to their doctor’s office as needed. Even more, physicians are allowed to make house calls to Proverbial Care as needed.
Can I live in assisted living if I need a wheelchair or walker to get around?
Yes. In fact, we encourage seniors who need assistance with ambulation to live with us at Proverbial Care.
Can you prevent resident falls?
It is important to be aware that assisted living communities cannot prevent resident falls. However, Proverbial Care provides a safe environment and services that encourage wellness, exercise, and activity to assist with the maintenance of functional ability. Staying active is one of the best ways to prevent falls.
What can I bring from home to add to my room?
The rooms are fully furnished with appropriate sized items that meet the Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) criteria. You may bring 2 special pieces of artwork and nightstand decorations that will make your room special and reflect your individual style. Also, bring a Twin XL mattress cover and your favorite pillow. In addition, even though the facility provides bed linens, you may choose to bring your favorite snuggly blanket/throw.
How long does it take from application to admission?
The time required varies greatly. Some potential residents need months to prepare for the move. Others need to move in quickly. Depending on room availability, it is possible to move in within two weeks of completing the admission's application.
If my health needs change while living at Proverbial Care, will I automatically have to move into a skilled nursing facility?
Instead of moving into a skilled nursing facility, some residents receive physical therapy, home health, and even hospice in their home at Proverbial Care. Others leave for post-surgical rehabilitation and look forward to coming back home as quickly as possible.
Do I have to give notice if I decide to move out?
Yes, as detailed in our Resident Agreement, we require a notice.
How much does assisted living cost?
Cost of Assisted Living varies per month depending on the residence and level of care required. What the monthly fee includes varies from residence to residence. Contact Proverbial Care's House Manager to inquire about cost relative to healthcare needs.
Is a security deposit required? How about other fees?
A security deposit is required at Proverbial care. A new resident service fee assessed to offset one-time costs associated with move-in.
How do I pay for Assisted Living?
Expenses are either paid for privately or through a 3rd party source such as Long Term Care insurance. The House Manager from Proverbial Care can help you with your financial plan and show you how affordable it can be.
How can we pay for the monthly cost of care?
Residents pay the flat monthly rate with their personal resources.
Do Medicare or Long Term Care policies pay for Assisted Living care?
Medicare does not pay for Assisted Living. Long Term Care policies typically have an Assisted Living benefit. However, you must be a recipient of that benefit.
Can I bring my own medications from home?
Yes, at Proverbial Care residents can administer their own medications if it is determined that it is safe for him/her to do so. However, medication management is included in the monthly fee even if the resident chooses to administer his/her own medication. All resident medications are kept secured in a designated location of the home. In addition, all medications are periodically reviewed and assessed for accuracy.
Is food available at all times?
Yes, 3 meals a day are served plus 3 daily snacks and beverages are available 24 hours a day.
Do the residents go outside?
Yes. Proverbial Care has a covered outdoor patio with comfortable seating and an attached walking trail that stretches across its acre of land.
Residents may go in and out as they please. If more security is required, supervised outdoor activities are provided.
What kind of activities and events are offered?
Proverbial Care offers a robust calendar of opportunities for learning, creativity, exercise and spirituality every month. Every event is designed to keep the mind, body and spirit actively engaged. From music to movies and exercise, games, services and celebrations, shopping and community events, and much more, you can remain as active and involved as you like.

Can residents do his/her own laundry?
Weekly laundry of linens and clothing is included in the monthly fee and provided by Proverbial Care caregivers.
Are pets allowed?
Pets are not allowed.
Can someone with dementia live at Proverbial Care?
Yes. Residents with beginning stages of dementia may live at Proverbial Care. Our program is equipped to provide basic memory care. The environment is homely with a spa-like feel, intimate/close structured - not too big and not too small.
Is smoking allowed at Proverbial Care?
Proverbial Care is a non-smoking environment. We are sensitive to the health needs of our residents.

What if I have a medical emergency?
Proverbial Care is staffed with CPR trained care givers and an AED 24 hours/day. Each staff member is trained to respond and offer immediate assistance and call emergency services as needed.
Do you have to be a specific religion to be a resident of Proverbial Care?
No. Proverbial Care is a faith-based assisted living facility. We proudly welcome and serve people of all faiths and races.
How do I really know if my loved one needs assisted living services?
The inability to cook, dress and take medications as prescribed are among the top reasons for seeking admission to an assisted living facility. In addition, some assisted living residents have a level of dementia coupled with marked forgetfulness. If your loved one exhibits any of these signs, you may consider an assisted living service such as Proverbial Care. Proverbial Care provides a secure home for individuals who are no longer able to independently care for themselves, thereby requiring 24 hour available assistants. What is the best way to introduce my loved one to the idea of assisted living?

What are the visiting hours?
Since this is our residents' home, visiting times are flexible. We ask that you keep in mind that is home for your loved one and others; most visits occur between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
Can I take my parent away from the assisted living home?
Yes. You are more than welcome to take your loved one out of the home. We ask that you ALWAYS let us know when you are leaving and when you expect to return so that we may properly plan for the resident’s medications, meals, etc.

What is the staffing ratio?
Minimally, 1 caregiver per 8 residents. Staffing levels may increase with increased acuity. In addition, Proverbial Care has a volunteer program to assist with engagement of activities and more.
How many beds?
Proverbial Care has 16; seven semi-private rooms and two private rooms.
