What is assisted living?

An assisted living lifestyle offers seniors an independent environment while providing basic assistance with their activities of daily living. Services may include daily meals, 24-hour staffing, housekeeping and laundry services, apartment maintenance, scheduled transportation, social and recreational activities, medication assistance, bathing assistance, and other personal assistance, as needed. A common lounge, TV room, library, exercise room, and dining room are included in most assisted living communities.

How Does Assisted Living Differ from Other Levels of Care?

Assisted living communities offer a unique combination of independent living and care. Unlike nursing homes and other medical facilities, assisted living facilities allow elders to maintain a sense of independence and involvement in a social community, while at the same time provide the assistance with daily life and peace of mind that comes with a trained team of caregivers.

Do all assisted living facilities offer the same services?

No. Assisted living communities differ in services, lifestyles, amenities, levels of care, apartment features, apartment layouts, recreational programs, and food programs.

Prepare yourself prior to touring a facility by writing a list of questions that pertain to services offered and services needed.
